You can read all of House Plant Nest without an account. This page says what the site records while you read, what it keeps when you give us your email address or write to us, who else handles it, and how to ask about it or complain.
The site is run by House Plant Nest, and for anything on this page you can reach us at hello@houseplantnest.com.
Page views
A small script of our own counts visits for our own statistics. It sends them to our own server, never to an analytics or advertising company. For each page it records:
- the page’s address, the time, how long the page was open and how far down it was read;
- the site that sent you, when your browser says (a search engine, for example), and any campaign tags in the link;
- your browser and device type, so people can be told apart from robots, and how fast the page loaded;
- your country, as Cloudflare reports it;
- a random visitor number the script keeps in your browser’s storage, so a return visit is counted once. It is not a name and is not shared. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it.
We use these numbers to see which pages help readers and which need work. They are never sold, and never joined with anything that names you.
What the site does not do
- No advertising and no ad network’s code, so no advertising cookies.
- No affiliate links. If a page ever carries one, it will say so, and this page will change first.
- No third-party analytics or tracking pixels.
- No comments and no accounts for readers.
Your email address, if you give it to us
If you put your address in the box on the home page, we keep it with the date, the page where you gave it and whether our welcome email was delivered. We use it for one thing: emailing you when new guides go up. It is never sold or added to another list. The emails go out through Brevo, an email delivery service, which handles your address only to deliver them (Brevo’s privacy policy). To leave the list, use the unsubscribe link in any email, or write to us and we delete your address.
When you write to us
Mail to hello@houseplantnest.com goes through Cloudflare Email Routing to the mailbox we read, which Google hosts. We use your message and your address only to answer you, and we delete the thread once it is no longer needed for that or to fix what you told us about.
Cloudflare
Cloudflare sits in front of the site. It delivers the pages and blocks attacks, so it handles your IP address and the request on their way through. If Cloudflare has to check that a visitor is a person, it may set a short-lived security cookie for that check (Cloudflare’s privacy policy).
Children
The site is written for adults and does not knowingly collect anything from children.
Your rights, and how to complain
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, or ask us to stop emailing you, at hello@houseplantnest.com. The page-view record holds no name, so we usually can’t pick one person’s visits out of it; anything you gave us by email or in the box we can find and delete.
If you are unhappy with how we handled your data, you can complain to us at the same address: we confirm we have your complaint within 30 days and tell you the outcome. In the UK you can also complain to the Information Commission (formerly the Information Commissioner’s Office, ico.org.uk). In the EU, you can complain to the data protection authority where you live.
When this page changes, the date at the top changes with it.
